So I just found out that my boss is leaving after 24 years with the company. I have some mixed emotions about the whole thing because he drives me nuts at times, yet I know I could do a lot worse.
On one hand he loves to bring me things to do about five minutes before I am supposed to leave. This drives me crazy especially if I don’t have a lot to do throughout the day, yet he feels the need to bring things to me when I am about to leave. This irritates me on many levels, but mostly because he acts like I’m not a human being with family and feelings, who could possibly have something to do immediately after I leave. Not everyone lives their life to make sure the company is as profitable as possible. Don’t get me wrong, I want the company to do well, but you have to walk the line when it comes to balancing success at work with the happiness of your employees.
So on the other hand my boss is really good at what he does. He inherited a really crappy situation when he first started. At the time there was a vice president and a controller who clearly had no idea what the heck they were doing and almost acted as if they just made things up as they went along and never gave much thought to whether it was the right or wrong way to do things. My boss ended up working fifteen hour days for over a year to clean that stuff up and really got an earful from the investors all throughout the process. In that regard I have a lot of respect for him for working hard and single handedly getting the company back on track by himself.
So I don’t know it’ll be really weird without him, not sure if itll be a good or a bad thing but I guess it just depends on who they hire to replace him. I doubt it would be anyone internal, but you never know. Nobody really stands out to me being able to replace him but stranger things have happened and I geuss you never really know how someone will do until they actually do the job right?
